I have learned the hard way that, most of the time, people genuinely do not care to know the reasoning behind my tattoos. They always ask, but they don’t want to know. They don’t want to hear about how much I enjoy Disney, or how the princesses inspire me, or why Star Trek is so incredible, or how fucking metal Goosebumps is - they just want to wait for a two second pause so they can say “you are going to regret that” and move on.
Even if I stand there and persist, like, no, my tattoos make me really happy, I love them, I think they’re beautiful, they’re real pieces of fucking art, nope. “Nahh, you’re really gonna hate them someday”
Today I’m pretty sure a customer went and complained about me because I snapped at him. For the millionth time I was asked “oh my god WHY would you do that to yourself??” with this startled look on his stupid face like I’m some child who still needs to be told what not to do and I stopped everything and looked him in the eye and said “because it’s MY body and it makes me happy, what does it matter to you?”
tl;dr PEOPLE WITH TATTOOS DON’T OWE YOU AN EXPLANATION ABOUT WHY THEY GOT THEIR TATTOOS, AND IT CERTAINLY DOESN’T HAVE TO SEEM LIKE A ‘GOOD ENOUGH’ REASON TO YOU BECAUSE IT’S NOT YOUR BODY
SO SHUT UP
