This is my cat, Grandpa. He is fourteen years old and has the feline immunodeficiency virus. We adopted him and his life-long partner, Wilford, about this time last year after months at the humane society. Cats with FIV are particularly hard to find homes for because the virus can be transmitted to other cats if you’re not careful. I’m glad to say that our three other cats are still virus free and that Grandpa will have a long, healthy, and happy life despite having FIV.
If you’re looking to adopt a cat, please don’t let possible FIV be a deciding factor. I mean, look at Grandpa’s face. Look at it.
